Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
